Fourth formal meeting of the European Advisory Committee on Health Research (EACHR)

Our president Professor Tomris Türmen chaired fourth formal meeting of the European Advisory Committee on Health Research (EACHR) held on the 10–11 December 2013 at the WHO European Regional Office in Copenhagen. The objectives of the meeting combine activities agreed through a work plan at the last meeting of the group as well as items requested by the Regional Director and members. They are to solicit Committee participants’ feedback and input into a number of key areas of the Office’s work:

  • Review of the implementation of actions as outlined in the agreed work plan for the EACHR for the next 1–2 years;
  • Review of public health research in Europe in light of current activities, including the independent expert group report on ‘Future of European public health research’; this is the main item of the meeting;
  • Provide guidance on research needs and gaps for several key areas of public health:
  1. Violence and maltreatment in childhood;
  2. Aging and sexual & reproductive health;
  3. Non-communicable diseases – how can research be more responsive?
  • Review of progress with the exercise to map research capacity in Europe;
  • Linking the activities and members of the EACHR with the recently launched Evidence for Policy Network (EVIPNet) at EURO.
