Child Brides and Health Risks

The International Children’s Center participated and contributed to the 16th National Public Health Congress jointly organised by Turkish Society of Public Health Specialists- HASUDER and Akdeniz University Medicine Faculty - Department of Public Health, which was held in Antalya on 28-31 October 2013.

Over 600 leaflets and posters were distributed and speeches were given at the congress which hosted 600 participants.

All participants showed great appreciation to the presentation of “Child Brides” presented by our Health Program Officer Dr Arzu Koseli. The highlight of the presentation was health risks faced by child mothers due to early and forced marriages. ICC publications along with 2 different “No to Child Brides” thematic posters, t-shirts and postcards were distributed free of charge to the participants at the ICC stand in the venue.

Sedat Ergin, a writer of national Hurriyet newspaper, referred to this presentation in his article named “Conservative democracy and child marriages” published on 9 November 2013.
